Prof. Ed Noort leads national investigation into the future of theology and religious studies

14 April 2014

Former Dean of the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Groningen and Old Testament specialist Prof. Ed Noort has been appointed chair of a committee charged with exploring the future of Dutch teaching and research in the field of religion and theology. This ‘Investigation Committee’ was recently set up by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences KNAW.

The Committee will investigate various topical themes. Noort: ‘The role of religion in society has changed radically. Religious Christianity has lost ground, but new forms of religion are flourishing. Islam has become an important, but contentious, factor. The role of religion in the public domain is once again the subject of much debate.’
