Title: Mittag-Leffler, the man, the mathematician and his network

Abstract:

The Swedish mathematician Mittag-Leffler (1846-1927) was remarkable because of his work in complex analysis, but much more because of his enormous network and what he set up during his life: the journal Acta Mathematica and the transformation of his villa and library in Djursholm into the Institut Mittag-Leffler. The lecture will describe some of this, using the biography of Mittag-Leffler by Stubhaug (Springer, 2010), while the book "Hidden harmony---geometric fantasies. The rise of complex function theory" by Bottazzini & Gray (Springer, 2013) has been a sourcefor mathematical aspects.

Colloquium coordinators are Prof.dr. A.C.D. van Enter (e-mail : A.C.D.van.Enter@rug.nl) and Dr. A.V. Kiselev (e-mail: a.v.kiselev rug.nl )
