Dr Ward Ferdinandusse appointed professor by special appointment in International Criminal Law

23 January 2014

Mr Ward Ferdinandusse has been appointed professor by special appointment in International Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law, via the Groningen University Fund, as of 1 January 2014.

International collaboration in criminal proceedings is a component of criminal law that is developing strongly and requires a great deal of attention. The legal instruments that shape and facilitate this collaboration are mainly international in nature. They include bilateral and multilateral treaties as well as instruments developed within the framework of the European Union. However, another important aspect is the national legislation that sets out this international and European law in detail and which provides the tools used to answer at a national level the question whether the requested legal aid can be provided.

Ward Ferdinandusse (1975) studied Dutch and International Law at the University of Amsterdam, where he also gained his PhD. He also works as a public prosecutor for the National Prosecutor's Office, where he has gained a wealth of experience in the practical application of the legal instruments on which this component of criminal law and criminal procedure law focuses.
