Continuous deployment management in a private cloud
With fast growth of technology and a number of Internet users increased, there is a need for on-line based services (cloud services). To follow this trend enterprise companies move their services into cloud. Worldwide accessibility of clouds brings great benefits by providing easy access to resources.
In a software development process, which is greatly improved by Continues Integration, deployment of software often does not get as much attention as other processes. However, deployment to the cloud can be quite complex when dealing with highly distributed systems requiring a wide range of different software. In this presentation we describe an approach for efficient cloud deployment of complex distributed systems.
Scheduling cloud resources for utilization among multiple collaborating cloud users is still often executed manually. To address this problem, researchers from JBI Distributed Systems group developed a scheduling service for cloud middleware that guarantees optimized resource utilization in terms of a total number of used resources in a given interval based on user-defined policies. The provided scheduler takes into account dependencies between individual services, and can enforce common use of shared resources that lead to the optimal resource utilization. By assuring continuous schedule optimality, costs caused by unnecessary usage of additional cloud resources are minimized. For actual deployment of services, we use a Deployment Manager.
Deployment manager (DM) tool is developed as internal project of Infobip Ltd. company for managing large number of internal deployable services in their data centers using automated deployment approach. With DM tool it is possible to deploy a build on cross-platform environment in very short period of time (less than 5 minutes), without any required technical knowledge about deployment process, which makes continuous delivery process fast and simple. The DM uses result of scheduling and deploy the cloud services according to the provided schedule.
In this presentation, our guest lecturers from Sarajevo - Bosnia and Herzegovina will present the how industry/university collaboration can bring added value by combining two solutions to get optimized usage of cloud resources with fast and automated deployment of cloud services.
