Title: "Algebraic curves over finite fields."
Algebraic curves over finite fields have applications in various fields such as cryptography, coding theory. These applications triggered the search for curves with many points. Wedenote by N_q(g) the maximum number of points that a curve of genus "g" over a finitefield of cardinality "q" can have. We have a bound for N_q(g) called Hasse-Weil-Serre bound.A curve is called "maximal" if its number of points is equal to this bound, and it is called "good"if its number of points is within 10% of the bound. In this talk we present lots of explicitequations of maximal and good curves.
We will also talk about an extension of Manin's elementary proof, which gives the bound forN_q(g) for the special case g=1.
