Lecture by Professor Daniel Cole on property rights, 14 May 2012
On Monday morning the 14th of May between 10:00 - 12:00 AM, the Faculty of Law has the honour of receiving Professor Daniel H. Cole, one of the world’s most renowned property rights scholars. He is Professor of Law and of Public and Environmental Affairs at the Maurer School of Law, Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. He has specialized in land rights, natural resources law as well as energy and environmental law. Professor Cole wrote a text book on law & economics and produced several papers together with Professor Elinor Ostrom, the 2009 winner of the Nobel Prize in economics.
Professor Cole’s exciting lecture on property rights will start at 10:30 AM sharp, at the Hanze Sociëteit, Oude Boteringestraat 19, Groningen (coffee and tea will be served at 10:00). The lecture will end at 11:15, after which Prof Dr Oscar Couwenberg (Law and Economics), Prof Dr Leon Verstappen (Private Law) and Prof Dr Pauline Westerman (Law and Philosophy) will comment briefly on his ideas. At 11:30 there will be half an hour for an active discussion with the panel and the audience. We hope many of you will make use of this opportunity! Chairman is Dr. Edwin Woerdman. The entire program will end at 12:00.
The lecture is initiated by the Groningen Centre of Energy Law and organized in close cooperation with the Groningen Centre of Law and Governance.

Veni-grants for ten researchers
The Dutch Research Council (NWO) has awarded a Veni grant of up to €320,000 each to ten researchers of the University of Groningen and the UMCG. The Veni grants are designed for outstanding researchers who have recently gained a PhD.
