Title: Lie groupoids and index theory
Abstract:
The aim of this talk is to explain generalizations of the
index theorem of Atiyah and Singer where, instead of a compact
manifold, the elliptic operators are defined on singular spaces
modeled by a Lie groupoid. I shall start by giving a short
introduction to the theory of Lie groupoids and their applications in
geometry. The set up of these index theorems uses some basic tools of
noncommutative geometry which are introduced next.
With this, the main theorems can be formulated, and, if time permits,
discuss the main ingredients of the proof, some special cases and
applications.
