Chemist Ben Feringa receives Van ’t Hoff medal 2011

Prof. Ben Feringa has been awarded the Van ’t Hoff medal 2011. The medal is awarded once every ten years by the University of Amsterdam for work in the field of chemistry.

Feringa has been awarded the medal for his excellent and pioneering research in the field of asymmetric synthesis and the design of new functional materials and nanosystems.

The medal was presented by Prof. Robbert Dijkgraaf, President of the KNAW and university professor at the University of Amsterdam, during the annual meeting of the Society for the Advancement of Science, Medicine, and Surgery in Amsterdam.

The Van ’t Hoff medal is named after the Dutch chemist J.H. van ’t Hoff, who won the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1901. The medal is awarded once every ten years by the University of Amsterdam for work in the field of chemistry. The chair that Feringa holds at the University of Groningen is also named after Van ’t Hoff.
