The Quantitative Economic History of Eastern Europe in the Twentieth Century
Our conference opens a forum for quantitative research into the economic performance of Eastern Europe during the late 19th and the 20th century and is designed to foster international collaboration. We welcome contributions applying a wide range of theoretical models and analytical tools: growth accounting, benchmark analysis, evolutionary models of technological change, dynamic factor analysis, spatial economics, and other relevant quantitative methods, as well as novel estimates on variables that are critical for these types of research. We are particularly keen on building a network which includes junior scholars and which aims at driving future research on the region.
The conference will be hosted by the Groningen Growth and Development Centre (GGDC), an institution which has long been at the forefront in the construction and dissemination of long-run time series on national accounts and industrial statistics. Following on the formidable footsteps of Angus Maddison, economic history continues to be one of our core areas of research. Conference participants will have the opportunity to meet with leaders of GGDC and to learn about our most important current activities. We look forward to welcoming you at one of the oldest Dutch universities and in one of Europe’s greenest cities.
The conference will be in room 1.04 Het Kasteel, Groningen (see Venue), and participants will be able to collect their badges and PR pack in front of the conference room upon arrival before 10am on Thursday 17 November.
