This thesis is devoted to the studies of preparation, characterization and application of novel hyperbranched polyurethanes/polyureas (HBPUs). The novel AB2 monomers and corresponding HBPUs have been synthesized by using commercially available compounds, carbonyl biscaprolactam (CBC) and bishexamethylene triamine (BHTA).

The HBPUs comprise reactive blocked isocyanate groups at the end of all dangling polymer chains, enabling to make functionalized hyperbranched polymers. Moreover the focal point comprises a secondary amino group, which is also accessible for further modifications. By this way a number of derivates thereof have been prepared thereby incorporating other interesting physical and chemical properties. These HBPUs and their derivatives can be used for surface protection and/or functionalization. HBPUs decorated with hydrophilic moieties can self-assemble into micelles in water, which are promising for coating and drug delivery applications.
