Title: PET and SPECT imaging of bone marrow disorders
Promotor(s): prof. E. Vellenga, prof. R.A.J.O. Dierckx
Faculty: Medical Sciences
New tracers for PET scan were studied to distinguish between various bone marrow diseases. The tracer 3-deoxy-3-18F-fluorothymidine (18F-FLT) showed different patterns of uptake and distribution in bone marrow diseases which makes it an interesting diagnostic technique. In patients with multiple myeloma it was shown that an increased expression of somatostatin receptors can be used to demonstrate enhanced disease activity by using the gamma camera SPECT technique and the SPECT tracer 111In-somatostatine (SRS).
