FEB alumnus, cured from cancer, runs New York marathon for charity
Arnoud Halmingh (28) is a graduate of the MScBA specialisation Operations and Supply Chains of the Faculty of Economics and Business. At about one year ago he was diagnosed with cancer. During his treatment he set himself an aim: running the New York City Marathon. Arnoud recovered and will compete on 7 November 2010. He combines his remarkable performance with raising money for the Queen Wilhemina Foundation (KWF) for cancer research.
In 2009, all of a sudden the life of Arnoud Halming turned from a healthy and sporty young man turned into that of a patient. After major surgery he seemed to be cured, but unfortunately a CT scan showed one more metastasis, which meant long sequel courses of chemotherapy in the University Medical Center Groningen. Finally last April Halmingh was given a clean bill of health. With all usual and necessary check ups though, for the possibility of recidive for each cancer patient is a real threat.
During his treatment, Arnoud remained positive and together with three friends he set himself the aim to run the New York City Marathon. And that is what will happen on 7 November! With his participatiion he will let everybody know that he is full of life again: playing football, jogging and working, full time and very dedicatedly.
To increase the importance, Halmingh decided to turn his marathon into a charity walk. In this way he draws attention towards the fight against cancer by Queen Wilhemina Foundation (in Dutch: KWF). Together with family, friends and supporters he aims to raise as much money as possible. Each donation will be gratefully received!
