Professor John Leopold, representative of the University of Newcastle (NCL) and Frans Zwarts, the Rector Magnificus of the University of Groningen (RUG) signed a contract on Tuesday November 17th, in order to intensify the relations between both universities. The first result of the contract is the establishment of two Double Degree master programmes between the Newcastle University Business School (NUBS) and the Faculty of Economics and  Business (FEB) in Groningen.

The Double Degree programs have a length of 17 months and start officially in 2010. Upon completion of their studies, students will graduate at both universities.

Students who start in Newcastle, will further specialize in International Business and Management in Groningen. Students who start with the MSc International Business and Management in Groningen will further specialize in Marketing in Newcastle. Both parties see this development as an important new phase in the internationalization of their Faculties, and as crucial for their international accreditations. More in general the contract is seen as a starting point of a more intensive collaboration between both universities at different levels, both in terms of education as well as research.
