Jan Willem Velthuijsen honorary professor in Finance and Controlling in the Energy Sector

As of 1 March 2009, Prof Jan Willem Velthuijsen has been appointed as professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Groningen. He will hold the honorary chair in Finance and Controlling in the Energy Sector. This new chair has been established for the benefit of the Executive Master Finance and Control in de Energy Sector. Velthuijsen will be programme director of this specialization and responsible for the organization and implementation of the Master’s programme, that started in January 2009. 

Prof Jan Willem Velthuijsen (1958) studied econometrics at the University of Amsterdam and obtained his PhD in economics in 1995 at the University of Groningen. As of 1997, he has been professor in economics at the University of Amsterdam. In addition, he has been working as partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers since 1999.

The international 'master in energy', for which Velthuijsen will be programme director, is a collaboration between the university, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and the Energy Delta Institute. Since the global energy market is becoming more and more complex, competition and regulations increase and energy and environment are subject of concern world-wide, there is an increasing demand for degree programmes in this sector. Groningen therefore offers the Executive Master of Finance & Control for the Energy Industry.
