Excellent start FEB team in competition for Supply Chain Management professionals
A team of PhD students from the department of Operations at FEB has made an excellent start in the national contest to be elected ‘best Supply Chain Management Team 2009’: they came in first place in their group and are now ranked third in the overall ranking of 250 participants. In the case of the internet game, they have to save an ailing producer of fruit juices.
This year, the competition between supply chain experts is organized for the first time and is followed closely by the entire world of logistics. An impressing number of 250 teams participate, with representatives from renowned companies such as Philips, Stork, DSM, Nestlé, Unilever, Friesland Foods and several educational institutes.
The point of departure of the ailing fruit juice producer in the internet game does not look too good: the stocks are high, the customers dissatisfied and the losses suffered are substantial.
Each competing team makes choices in contracts with suppliers and buyers, the organization of warehouses and production and the harmonization of the positions within the company.
The team of Operations got off to a flying start and was ranked first in its group. This puts FEB Operations in 3rd place in the overall ranking of 250 participating companies, making it the most highly ranked educational institute. In the first round already, the FEB team managed to change the losses of the fruit juice producer into a substantial profit, which they will try to accumulate in the rounds to come.
The entire game takes six weeks, with new challenges awaiting every week.
The FEB team members are: Boyana Petkova, Erik Soepenberg, Remco Germs and Tim van Kampen.Last modified: | 31 January 2018 11.52 a.m. |
