Fenghui Xiong of IB&M is 25,000th student at the RUG and receives laptop
The University of Groningen has more students this year than ever before. This week, Rector Prof. Frans Zwarts presented a welcome gift (a notebook computer) to a new MSc student of our faculty: Fenghui Xiong (student of IB&M - International Financial Management) is the 25,000th student to be enrolled in the University.
On the official reference date, 1 October, the total number of registered students was 26,808, 4.6 per cent up from last year’s figure. This increase is mainly due to the number of first-year Bachelor’s degree students (6.1 per cent). The number of new students in transfer programmes remained almost the same.
Fenghui Xiong comes from China and studies the International Financial Management specialization of the International Business & Management programme. This is a double degree programme which the FEB has set up in collaboration with Uppsala University, Sweden as part of a strategic alliance.
Why did you choose Groningen?
"I wanted the international experience and fellow students told me that Groningen is a beautiful city with a good university. The reputation of the university was the deciding factor for me. I started last September and I am amazed how much I have learned in such a short time. Groningen doesn't have a large Chinese community, so I easily come in contact with foreigners, which is what I like. Groningen is a calm and friendly city."
And why did you choose International Financial Management?
"The subject has my interest and a lot happens in the financial world of China right now. So I think there's a lot of jobs out there."
