EUR 80,000 for Prof. Ruud Koning's research into risk management in sport

Professor of Sport Economics Ruud Koning is participating in the long-term research programme ‘Sport: maatschappelijke ontwikkelingen, persoonlijke betekenissen’ [Sport: social developments, personal relevance] conducted by the WJH Mulier Institute at the behest of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS).
The Mulier Institute for social-scientific sport research evaluates, researches and advises at the behest of public sector bodies and sport organizations. The Mulier Institute is located in Den Bosch.
Prof. Koning will be involved in the subresearch project ‘Risk management in sport’, for which there is a budget of EUR 20,000 a year for the period 2007-2010. The initial subject will be research into the most relevant risks for sport clubs, for example large fluctuations in the number of members, the quality and availability of volunteers, etc. He will make use of the ‘club panel’ of the WJH Mulier Institute for this research. This panel is a representative sample of sport clubs in the Netherlands.
