Royal Decorations for Prof. Sanders, Prof. Wijngaard and Ms Hoekstra

Three members of the faculty were nominated by the University for the birthday honours list, and on Friday 27 April 2007 they were appointed Knights in the Order of Orange-Nassau: Prof. G.J.E.M. Sanders, Prof. J. Wijngaard and Ms. H. Hoekstra. The decorations were conferred on Friday morning by the mayors of their respective home towns.
Ms. H. Hoekstra
Hilly Hoekstra is the head of the library of the faculties of Economics, Management and Organization and Spatial Sciences. Since 1988 she has worked tirelessly to professionalize her library and its staff. On a national scale, Hoekstra has been involved for many years in the development of the profession of librarian, particularly through her activities for the Dutch Association of Library, Information and Knowledge Professionals (NVB).
Prof. G.J.E.M. Sanders
Geert Sanders has worked for the Faculty of Management and Organization in various capacities since 1969. He became professor of Organization Studies in 1998, in particular organization culture and interorganizational cooperation. Sanders is known as an involved and inspiring lecturer. In 1997 he became the first director of the Ubbo Emmius Foundation and head of the department of Alumni Relations and Fundraising. He plays a stimulating role in the cooperation between the university and businesses in the north of the Netherlands.
Prof. J. Wijngaard
In 1991, Jacob Wijngaard was appointed professor of Production Management at the Faculty of Management and Organization. Wijngaard is involved in the spread of logistical insights into both the business world and non-industrial environments, such as hospitals. Between 1996 and 2001, Wijngaard was dean of the faculty. During this period, a new teaching approach, a new teaching organization and a far-reaching reorganization were implemented. Wijngaard is highly regarded in the faculty, not only as a scientist but also for his management style and administrative qualities.
