Admission & Application

Admission requirements

✔️ Exchange Partner University
Your home university is an exchange partner of the University of Groningen and you have been nominated by your home university. Unfortunately, it is not possible to study at our faculty as a free mover.
✔️ Enrolled Student
You are a full time student at your home university.
✔️ First-Year Credits
You have at least a minimum of 60 ECTS (or the equivalent) at the moment of applying.
✔️ Exchange Period
You can only take part in the exchange programme during the official exchange periods: either for one semester or a full academic year. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to offer alternative timeframes.
✔️ Language Requirements*
You must provide an English language certificate at B2/C1 level. The certificate can be TOEFL iBT (total minimum of 92 of which 21 of each section), IELTS (total minimum of 6.5 of which 6.0 of each section), or Cambridge CAE or CPE (minimum of B2).
*Exceptions
  • Erasmus+ exchange students need to provide one of the language tests mentioned above or provide an Erasmus+ OLS test result, Europass self-assessment (signed by the coordinator from your home university), a statement from the coordinator from your home university or a certified transcript of records, indicating English CEFR level (minimum B2/C1).
  • You do not need to submit a language certificate if English is your native language and you can prove that both your current studies and your secondary education were conducted entirely in English. In this case, you must provide supporting evidence, such as proof of nationality, and official high school certificate, and/or a statement from your home university coordinator.
  • If you want to enroll in Master courses taught by the departments of Linguistics, Journalism, and American Studies you must have a level of language proficiency of: CEFR C1 or TOEFL 100 (minimum of 25 for writing skills) or IELTS 7 (with a minimum of 6.5 for each section) or Cambridge C1 Advanced.

After your application

After receiving your completed application, you will hear from us within 2 weeks. We might need additional documents or information before being able to approve your application. We will notify you by email. After we’ve approved your application, we will register your student account and you will be able to download your 'Letter of Invitation' in Mobility Online.
