Reminder for cyclists to Zernike Campus: just one entrance to the campus from the city centre, 1-13 July

01 July 2019

Allow an extra 5 minutes for your commute!

From Monday 1 to Saturday 13 July 2019, entering the Zernike Campus by bike from the direction of the city centre will only be possible via the smart route through Selwerd Park and entering the campus at the Linnaeusborg location. During those 13 days, the bike path on the east side of the Zernikelaan ánd the Crematoriumlaan will be closed. Also the Jaagpad along Reitdiep is already out of use until the end of summer. (See illustration below.)

At the same time, the cycle path at the west side of the Zernikelaan, along Aletta Jacobshall, will be open again. This one-way cycle route can only be used southbound, to leave Zernike Campus.

Allow for diversions

Between 3 June and 31 August, visitors coming to the campus by bike should take note of the following:

  • Leave plenty of time for your commute
  • Follow the diversion signs
  • If biking, follow the smart route through Park Selwerd
  • Allow an extra 5 minutes for your trip
  • Check the latest diversions before you leave via www.rug.nl/GroundbreakingWork.

Cycle Route 1-13 July 2019

Projects: WarmteStad and Upgrade Zernikelaan

The closures and diversions are due to essential work for two projects in the summer of 2019. WarmteStad is a project by the Municipality and Waterbedrijf Groningen, who are constructing a heat grid between Zernike and Planetenlaan along Jaagpad (Reitdiep).

In the Upgrade Zernikelaan project (2019-2021) the Municipality of Groningen, Hanze UAS Groningen and the University of Groningen) aim to improve the traffic situation and overall appearance of Zernikelaan. The plan is to make it greener, safer and generally more attractive. This summer, it involves renovation of the roads, bike lanes and exits from the ring road near the main entrance to the campus. Traffic lights will be erected to regulate the traffic using the exits.
