The importance of class consciousness
Few workers in the Netherlands identify themselves as part of a social class according to accepted scientific classification. Instead of being willing to fight against the capitalist system, many Dutch people are prone to ethnocentrism and anti-immigrant sentiments. Sociologist Jaap Nieuwenhuis spoke with Jacobin about research he is doing with other sociologists on class and the different perspectives on this concept.
