Winterschool 'Youth, Society and Policy''
The main subject of this school is the quality improvement of child and family services (education, prevention, and child and youth care). Two areas of expertise will be showcased: Child Abuse and Neglect, and School Dropout. Both topics will be approached from three perspectives: Society, Effectiveness of Policy, and Innovation.
Participants will gain broad understanding of the scope, causes, ethical issues, consequences and ways of intervening with Child Abuse and Neglect, and School Dropout. They will learn also about their role – as academic trained professionals – in leading teams of practitioners and organizations towards an increased quality of child and family services. This schools aims also to serve as a sample of the forthcoming International Master track “Youth 0-21, Policy and Society” (starting September 2016).
The learning methodology will consist of lectures, workshops, case studies and debates. Besides lectures by first-rate teachers at our Faculty, the following international speakers have confirmed their participation: Dr. Fred Wulczyn, Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago; Prof. Doris Buehler, University of Wuppertal; Prof. Marit Skivenes, University of Bergen; and Prof. Nick Frost, Leeds Beckett University. PhD students will be given the opportunity to present their research in workshops and poster sessions.
Participants who want to gain 5 EC will write an essay about one of the topics discussed in the course. These essays will be assessed by a group of selected teachers. A prize of €150 will be awarded to the student who writes the best essay.
