Other

There are several other possibilities for teaching and/or research-related trips abroad that cannot be easily categorized. Here is a brief overview of these possibilities and, where relevant, how to apply for them. All posibilities mentioned require internal coordination, and approval of the manager is crucial. Educational obligations in Groningen are always leading.

Private funds

Temporary stays abroad can be sponsored by private funds, such as Fulbright (US). You can also look for funding possibilities for your specific situation in general, national and international databases, for example www.beursopener.nl. Although at first sight this database seems to be intended for students, it also provides an overview of teaching and research grants.

The 'talen en filologie, kunst en geesteswetenschappen' [languages and philology, art and humanities] and 'gedrag en maatschappij: sociale wetenschappen' [behaviour and society: social sciences] sections list a number of grants that may dovetail with the subject fields of the Faculty of Arts.

Dutch institutions abroad

There are Dutch institutions in a variety of locations around the globe, established by Dutch universities to promote research and collaboration in the region in question.

Most of these institutions offer Dutch lecturers/researchers the opportunity to participate in their degree/research programmes at a reduced rate or on the basis of a grant. There are eight Dutch institutions abroad, in the following cities: Ankara, Athens, Cairo, Florence, Istanbul, Rabat, Rome and Saint Petersburg.

Faculty funding officer

Further information about research funding possibilities in the Netherlands and abroad can be found on the webpage of the Faculty funding officer, whom you can also contact to make an appointment to discuss the possibilities.

University-wide collaboration networks (Coimbra, U4 etc.)

Finally, the University of Groningen also participates in a number of partnerships and networks that may provide incoming or outgoing mobility options. The International Relations department of the University of Groningen coordinates these university-wide initiatives for collaboration and/or funding possibilities. The contact person for these partnerships and networks is Ms Jodien Houwers .
