Oscar Couwenberg new Dean Faculty of Spatial Sciences
Oscar Couwenberg has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences per September 1st. He will be Professor of Governance and Geography.
Couwenberg is economist by training, and started his career as a researcher at the University of Groningen at the Faculty of Economics and Business, specializing in corporate finance and governance. In 2001, he was appointed Professor of Law and Economics at the Faculty of Law, where he was vice-Dean from 2005 till 2009 and Director of Research for a period of three years, starting in 2010. In 2013 he was appointed (interim) Academic Director of the University of Groningen research priority Sustainable Society.
"My involvement with Sustainable Society showed me how interesting spatial sciences can be and how much it is in the middle of many important social issues. It is this focal role that spatial sciences can play which makes me very enthusiastic."
