Could you tell me a little bit about yourself?

I am Annebeth Meulenberg, 23 years old and come from Apeldoorn. I followed the bachelor’s programme International Business at FEB and I just started my Master’s degree here as well; Marketing Intelligence & Management. During my bachelor’s programme I went to Chile for half a year and last year I was a board member of the International Business Research Project for which we went to Indonesia to do research. So yes, that quite sums up my FEB career!

That is a lot of FEB! Before you got so active, how did you decide to come to Groningen?

Actually this was a bit ‘unprofessional’. I already preferred the city of Groningen, so instead of really going for the study programme, I first chose the city and then looked at what study I wanted to do. Both my parents studied in Groningen as well and they were always very enthusiastic. From when I was little they told me so many great stories about the city, so maybe they influenced me a little. Also I already knew some friends that started studying here, and they were also very positive. To be able to make a good decision I also visited some other cities, but actually my mind was set on Groningen already.

And now you even work here, right?

Yes, I do!

What is it that you do here?

I work at the Student Support Desk. This is a help desk for students from FEB. They can come to us with a great variety in questions. For example when they need a signed list of their grades or when the enrollment of courses did not go as planned. We can either help them with the questions or send them to the right person that can help them.

How did you get to this job?

I got this job by contacting a friend. He fulfilled this role earlier and I was interested, so I asked whether a position would get free soon. Then he advised me to contact the head officer, which I did and I got the job.

So actually this was not so hard?

No it was quite easy!

What is your most fun experience so far with having a job at the faculty?

Actually this sounds a bit cheesy, but it gives me a great feeling when I can help the students. For example, for international students that come to study here some processes can be a bit confusing sometimes, so in that case they are always so happy when we help them!

What is your advice for students that might consider getting a job at FEB as well? How does this work?

You can ask fellow students that already work here. They might have more insight into whether certain positions get free or not. Also, you can just sent an email to the head officer and just ask! That worked out for me as well. Besides that, the student portal also shows vacancies for jobs as a student assistant.
