At the beginning of each semester the university welcomes both new international Bachelor and Master students to Groningen. Distinguished speakers from the university, the city of Groningen and the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) open the official Welcoming Ceremony in a short plenary session, after which students can gather lots of useful information for a great start of their time with us.
Because of the gathering restrictions surrounding COVID-19 we are very sad to say we cannot offer the Welcoming Ceremony in the same fashion as we usually do. We are working hard at offering a suitable online alternative on August 27; all updates will be communicated through this webpage and through email. We start sending out invitations late June onwards (based on admission status) – if you have not received an email by August 24th, contact us at email@example.com so we can send you the necessary information.
For the time being you will be able to find a lot of useful information already in our pre-departure guide.
Movin' to the University of Groningen
If you arrive at Schiphol airport on the 24th, 25th or 26th of August come and say hello to our Movin' to the University of Groningen team who will welcome you and help you on your way to Groningen (or Leeuwarden, if you are a CF student)!
On the 29th of August 2019 there were ten live acts to enjoy for all first year students, who made new friends while dancing the night away.
Listen to the line-up on our Spotify playlist, and check out the aftermovie.
ESN Introduction week
The ESN introduction week is another great way to start off your time in Groningen. Get to know your way around the city, find out where the best bars and clubs are, learn about Dutch history, watch a comedy act and learn everything about the transport (even how to ride a bike!).
