Why perfectionism is a waste of time

Information:

During your PhD training we learn to focus on detail; we are expected to know everything about our field of study and we constantly read and absorb more and more information. We are scrutinized on every detail of our work and we feel like an imposter if we discover a gap in our knowledge. This forces us to be thorough, focused, hard-working and exact. The downside of this aspect of our PhD training is that it turns us into perfectionists; we feel that nothing is ever good enough or ever ready to be evaluated. This perfectionism does not improve our mental health nor our effectivity. On the contrary, it can diminishes our professional output and can prevent us in achieving our goals. This workshop focusses on perfectionism, how and where it is our strength, but also how and where it is a weakness, and why perfectionism wastes our time. Most importantly, we will focus on identifying perfectionist traits and how to deal with them so we can achieve our goals and manage our time effectively!

Learn to fail (and stay happy about it!)

Information:

This workshop is a follow-up to the workshop Why perfectionism is a waste of time. When you enter a new employment position after your PhD, you will enter into a training period where you will encounter a new work environment, new colleagues, and new responsibilities and tasks. Our perfectionists’ selves will want to do everything flawlessly, but as you enter a new learning phase, chances are that you will make several mistakes at your new workplace, or you might find that you just werent cut out for this line of work. How do you deal with failure?

This workshop teaches you how to deal with making mistakes and failure, how to stay happy about it so that when you happen to fall flat on your face, you fall as gracefully as possible. Happy about failing? That sounds like quite the contradiction. It is not the easiest thing in the world to train yourself in, but it is possible. Look at failures as a positive step in personal development. The trainers from Improsa will teach you how to deal with failures and how to change your state of mind when you do dwindle into negative thoughts. And yes, they will show you and practice with you!
