Background and Mission
The Sustainability & Wellbeing (SW) science team studies how societies can respond to major global challenges through sustainable transitions. At the heart of our work are two transitions: the climate & ecological transition, and the health & wellbeing transition.

Both transitions intersect with concerns of social justice. Climate change and biodiversity loss affect quality of life worldwide, but their impacts are unevenly distributed. For example, some communities in the Global South face significantly greater climate risks. Some bird species are forced to leave areas where agricultural practices degrade their habitats. The wellbeing of all living beings depends on the health of our planet.
We aim to understand these challenges and provide ethically informed, evidence-based knowledge to support societal transitions.
