Multilingualism is all around us and it plays an important role in today’s society. In a world of globalisation , speakers of different languages are meeting more frequently with every passing day. Dealing with these multilingual practices in an effective way in your daily life and work can be advantageous. The University of Groningen now offers you the opportunity to explore multilingual practices in a Massive Online Open Course (MOOC).

Over four weeks, this course will explore how multilingualism can work on personal, scientific and policy levels. We will look at:

  • The position of minority languages and dialects

After following this course you will be able to:

  • Evaluate the benefits of multilingualism for both minority and migrant speakers
  • Recognise issues that arise when speakers of different languages meet.
  • Critically evaluate multilingual language policies for both migrant and minority languages
  • Analyse multilingual practices

During the course we will hear different opinions and ideas about multilingualism from experts in the field, but we want to hear yours too! What do you think of multilingual education?
