Looking back on Europe Day at Campus Fryslân

On Friday, May 8, Campus Fryslân marked Europe Day by hosting the Europe Day in collaboration with the Municipality of Leeuwarden. The event provided residents of Fryslân with the opportunity to explore what Europe means for the region and to discover how European collaboration contributes to local development and innovation.

The event, which was opened by mayor Sybrand Buma, brought together a wide range of organizations to showcase initiatives and projects that support Fryslân’s growth and development. It offered visitors an accessible way to engage with topics such as regional cooperation, sustainability, innovation and the broader impact of European partnerships on society and the economy. Outside, visitors could check out the Spacebuzz, which gave them the opportunity to view Earth from an astronaut’s perspective.

Students, professionals, local residents and community organizations came together in an open and welcoming setting focused on dialogue and knowledge exchange. Visitors had the opportunity to learn more about European programmes and collaborations while engaging in conversations about the tangible ways in which European cooperation benefits the province.

As an internationally oriented and socially engaged academic community, Campus Fryslân considers it an important part of its mission to connect science, society and contemporary European challenges. Hosting events such as the Europe Day reflects the campus’s ambition to serve as a meeting place where regional and international perspectives come together.
