Caspar van den Berg member of the Senate

Prof. Caspar van den Berg, professor of Global and Local Governance, will be sworn in as a senator next Tuesday. Van den Berg succeeds senator Eric van der Burg, who joined the cabinet as State Secretary for Asylum and Migration.
"I was placed on the list of VVD-candidates for the Senate in the 2019 elections. Four people had to move on before I could get in. That seemed a long way, but because two party members have now become ministers and state secretary, it is my turn sooner than I expected. I am diving into this new position with great energy, which I am fortunate to be able to perform alongside my work as a professor at Campus Fryslân."
Eye for the region
"The Senate focuses on the quality, rule of law and implementability of the laws that the Second Chamber has already passed. A critical view of this is very important, because legislation must be technically and substantively well put together if it is to lead to successful policy in daily practice. The key to a renewed trust in government lies largely in the quality of our legislation. Being able to contribute to this, of course keeping a sharp eye on the perspective of 'the region', is a great honor”, says van den Berg.
