Dr. Anne Beaulieu new director of Data Research Centre
As of 15 March, Campus Fryslân’s Data Research Centre has a new director. Dr. Anne Beaulieu is the successor of prof. Andrej Zwitter. What are Beaulieu’s ambitions with the Data Research Centre?
The potential of big data
“To really benefit as a society from the potential of big data, we have to make decisions about whether to use it and when to use it. These questions are so complex, they have to be addressed in a cross-disciplinary way. At the DRC, we have a great set of experts who are able to work collaboratively and who are eager to come up with concrete solutions” says dr. Anne Beaulieu. “The DRC is therefore well-positioned to contribute to more responsible use of data, and as director, I will ensure that our expertise is visible and accessible a variety of stakeholders—researchers, students, policy-makers and businesses. My experience in Science and Technology Studies and in analysing and developing databases and knowledge infrastructures will help me achieve this.”
Data Research Centre
The Data Research Centre has a unique combination of expertise on data science and on the relations between data, technology and society. This means that we can not only help answer questions with and about data, but we can also help ask better questions.
Dr. Anne Beaulieu
Anne Beaulieu came to the Netherlands from Canada 24 years ago and is an associate professor in Science and Technology studies at Campus Fryslân. She works on the development of knowledge infrastructure for sustainability in Friesland and globally, and is responsible for the Responsible Planet major within the bachelor degree Global Responsibility & Leadership. Anne Beaulieu is co-founder of the Groningen Energy Summer School, trailblazer of the minor Data Wise: Data Science in Society, and coordinator of the PhD training in the National Research School on Science, Technology and Modern Culture (WTMC).
