Soils are crucial for life but are rapidly degrading due to human activities. Clarisses research examined soil health, with focus on the Frisian peat meadow area, identifying trade-offs and synergies between key soil functions like climate regulation, productivity, water storage, nutrient cycling, and biodiversity. The findings emphasize the importance of combining landscape-level approaches with field-specific management to improve soil health. Additionally, the study suggests integrating soil degradation into the Planetary Boundaries framework to prioritize soil health globally and drive restoration efforts.
