The last months before summer have been busy! We have taken a lot of job interviews to find the new studentpool for next year, we had a great wrap-up party to say goodbye to this year’s poolers and of course we have been giving workshops, attended career events at the faculties and checked your CV’s and cover letters .

ESN meets Career Services: Internationalise Your Career | April 18

On the 18th of April, Career Services and ESN Groningen organised career event for international students and Dutch students with an interest in pursuing a career abroad. This event, 'Internationalise your Career' focused on two aspects of pursuing a career abroad, namely 'employability' and 'integration'. During the event, various workshops were given on these topics, including workshops on Intercultural Competence, Job interview and How to network?.

We are looking back at a successful event with an interactive and diverse group of students .

Career Events – Faculty of Arts | Faculty of Law | May

The Faculty of Arts has organised various career events specially for their students. Workshops, seminars, fairs, CV checks, LinkedIn photo booths , just to name a few things they have organised. A range of career possibilities like working at the government, starting your own company, or what skills are needed for a PhD student were covered.

The faculty of Law devoted the month of May to their students’ career opportunities. Workshops like mock job interview and assessments were covered and of course you also had the opportunity to have you CV, cover letter and LinkedIn checked. At the end of the month there was a special Career Day where law firms & alumni spoke about the law job market.

Volunteer for your future Career! | May 22

For the second time, Career Services organised the event 'Volunteer for your Future Career'. On the 22nd of May, many students interested in doing social work or with the ambition to work - or intern - for a NGO, came to the van Swinderen Huys for this event. The event started with a plenary session, where professor Hogerzeil (UMCG, WHO) and Thari Zweers (Amnesty International) talked about their experiences in the field and went into discussion with the students. The second part of the event consisted of a charity fair, where various local, national and international organisation had their stand and there was the opportunity to go on a one-on-one speed date recruitment session.
Looking satisfactory back at this event, Career Services is positive which such a large group of students of this university trying to pursue careers with a social impact and is looking forward to see you all again at our future events.

Daily Routine

Next to all our events and activities we are at the I-Shop five days a week to help and advise you with your career. Providing cv-checks, checking motivation letters and advising on Linked-In is part of our daily routine. We also have career counselors, job agencies and other instances visiting the I-shop once or twice a week for tailored and in-depth advice.
