Carolina Kakies
Carolina is a third-year Psychology student who is also following the Honours Programme. She has a particularly keen interest in neuropsychology. Her goal is to connect research with clinical practice in order to make the further treatment of neuropsychological illnesses possible. As an international student from Hamburg, she has travelled to many places besides Groningen, including a year of boarding school in Bath, England, during her secondary schooling at a gymnasium (pre-university education) in Hamburg. As part of her current degree programme, she spent a semester at the University of Tokyo, Japan, and also carried out research placements in Hamburg and Cologne. The results she has achieved in both Groningen and for her placements abroad have been excellent. In addition, the findings of her two studies have since been published. Carolina is the co-author of one of these studies, a notable achievement for a Bachelor’s student. Furthermore, she is a teaching assistant for a first-year Psychology course unit. She is also active as a volunteer, both in her studies (helping with research projects) as well as externally, for instance in her work for Het Overweeghuis, a safe residence for former sex workers and/or victims of human trafficking.
Carolina knows what she wants and has mapped out her future studies well. She has a talent for standing out and being invited to give presentations and conduct placements. During her pitch, the jury noted her keen enthusiasm and very strong discussion skills.
