Raquel Ortega Argilés

Rosalind Franklin Fellow in Global Economics & Management at the Faculty of Economics and Business

Currently, Raquel Ortega-Argilés is a Rosalind Franklin Research Fellow and Assistant Professor at the department of Global Economics and Management of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Groningen (RUG) in Groningen, Netherlands.

Before joining the University of Groningen, Raquel was a postdoctoral researcher at the IN+ Center for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research of the Instituto Superior Técnico (Lisbon, Portugal), a scientific officer at the IPTS, a joint research center of the European Commission (Seville, Spain), a senior research fellow in the Entrepreneurship, Growth and Public Policy group at the Max-Planck Institute of Economics (Jena, Germany) and a junior researcher at the Regional Quantitative Analysis (AQR) research group of the University of Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain). She holds a PhD in Economics and an Advanced Studies Diplome on Applied Economics from the department of Econometrics and Statistics of the University of Barcelona.

Her main research interest is economic performance at firm and regional levels. In particular, the focus on Productivity, Innovation and R&D; Regional Development, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Policies; Firm Demography; SME and Entrepreneurship; as well as, the analysis of transatlantic gaps on R&D and productivity.

Her work on innovation, entrepreneurship and corporate governance topics has been published in international journals and in refereed books. Additionally, Raquel has also worked as an external consultant for the European Commission (DG Research and Innovation, DG Regional and Urban Policy, DG Enterprise and Joint Research Center), European Investment Bank and the OECD. Recently, Raquel is also collaborating with the United Nations in the context of Smart Specialisation policies.
