Rijksmuseum Director Alumnus of the Year

Wim Pijbes (Veendam, 1961) has been elected Alumnus of the Year 2013 of the University of Groningen. Pijbes has been general director of the Rijksmuseum since 2008. He studied Art History in Groningen, specializing in modern architecture. From 2000 until mid 2008, he was director of the Kunsthal in Rotterdam, where he began working as exhibition coordinator in 1996. He helped to initiate the children's art book series published by Uitgeverij Waanders, for which he wrote the volume entitled Het kleine schilderboek (The Little Painting Book).

The weekly online video magazine Unifocus highlights topics related to the University of Groningen in the fields of research and society, student life, teaching, policy and internationalization.
