Talent Funding

The best way to further your career as a researcher is to acquire an individual grant. Both NWO, the European organization ERC and the European mobility programme Marie Curie have a wide range of individual grants available. So when is the right time to apply for a grant? The Talent Funding Team and the Dean of Talent Development are available to explain the options for each individual case. Some faculties also have contact persons whom researchers can approach with all their questions about grants.

Acquiring funding for research is time-consuming and a skill in its own right. The annual Grants Week provides an introduction to the available opportunities. During this week the Talent Funding Team, the Cooperation Funding Team, International Relations, HR experts and UMCG’s Research Office combine their expertise to provide you with all the information you need. (Note: this expertise is available to you outside the Grants Week too!) External stakeholders are also invited to participate during this week.

Recruiting PhD Students

In the Netherlands, a researcher will normally look for a suitable PhD candidate to assist them with a project. However, in many other countries, talented Master’s students can apply for PhD research grants themselves. These students are on the lookout for suitable locations to perform their research. This is an excellent opportunity to attract research talent to Groningen.

The Talent Funding Team supports researchers in the recruitment of foreign PhD students with individual research grants to the University’s Graduate Schools. The University actively recruits in several countries, including China, Indonesia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile and Mexico. We also provide support in applying for Nuffic NFP grants for PhD students.
