Innovating Against Malnutrition – Guest Lecture by Prof. Bryan Gonzales

On 19 May, Prof. Bryan Gonzales (Ghent University) gave a public lecture at the University of Groningen on how multi-omics is transforming our understanding of childhood severe malnutrition. He discussed how technologies such as metabolomics, proteomics, and microbiome analysis are being applied in low-resource settings to uncover the biological mechanisms behind acute malnutrition and its long-term consequences.
The event, co-hosted by the UMCG Global Health Unit and the SSA programme, took place in the Senate Chamber and attracted an interdisciplinary audience. It sparked lively discussions and follow-up conversations.
