It’s probably the slightly stooping stance
hands that reach into a breast pocket
in order to retrieve a balled up hypothesis
or perhaps it’s actually the habit
of looking at something without being able to see
the only discourses I hold these days are internal
my tongue a redundant lump,
the future reduced to an obstinate longing
while countless others walk, hopeful,
into your embrace
and it’s as if you look at the world
through those windowed-eyes of yours, mistrustful,
that our gazes reconnect
in a reflection, an exchange of views
we are connected somehow, by what divides us
