UG signs manifesto ‘Think green, act green’

30 March 2026

Last week, the Executive Board signed the manifesto ‘Think Green, Act Green’ from the Green Young Academy, on behalf of the University of Groningen. The Green Office is happy with this step and the Board’s commitment to sustainability.

The UG has been taking steps in the field of sustainability for some time and has consistently ranked among the top of the international UI GreenMetric Ranking for years. The university also previously signed the Durham Declaration. The manifesto aligns with this course and with the ambitions for the future.

An internal assessment shows that the UG already meets many of the proposed actions. Work is still being done on further elaboration regarding a number of points, such as strengthening knowledge circulation, assessing curricula, and further embedding sustainability in evaluations and reward systems.

The components of the manifesto that have not yet been fully implemented will be included in the new Sustainability Roadmap 2026–2031, which the Sustainability Department (Green Office) is currently working on. In this way, the ambitions are further developed and secured within the organization.
