International Women’s Day: Webinar increasing the Visibility of Women in Science
On 8 March, we celebrate International Women’s Day, a global day to recognise women’s achievements and raise awareness of structural inequalities that still affect, among other areas, education, research, and professional careers.
Within higher education, role models play a key role. Yet women and minorities remain underrepresented in STEM, including online. Only around 18% of biographies on Wikipedia are about women, which influences who we see as pioneers and who inspires future generations.
Webinar – Increasing Visibility of Women Scientists
To mark International Women’s Day, the Academia Europaea Budapest Knowledge Hub is organising an inspiring webinar on 12 March 2026 featuring Jess Wade, physicist at Imperial College London.
Since 2018, Jess Wade has created more than 2,100 Wikipedia pages about female and underrepresented scientists. Through this initiative, she actively helps close the gender gap and ensures lasting visibility for diverse scientific role models.
During the webinar, she will share her personal journey as a researcher, her motivation for starting this initiative, and her experiences increasing visibility in science.
