Most of us update our disciplinary knowledge constantly. Our pedagogy? Not so much.

• Why do our students seem different from even a few years ago? Why are they changing?
• What happens to education when ecological and social breakdown, political instability and an increasingly uncertain future can no longer be treated as something happening somewhere else?

We invite you to join Relearning Higher Ed: five sessions to think about these questions together.

This is not training, and it is not a workshop series offering "tips and tricks". This is a co-learning to question some of the things higher education tends to take for granted: what knowledge is worth teaching; what learning is; what our role as educators is ; what grades are for and what kind of education makes sense for the world our students are entering.

We will read a little, talk honestly, encounter different ways of thinking about learning and transformation, and try some of them out ourselves. The idea is to engage not only our heads, but also heart , hands and body - because you cannot think about  transformative learning without being transformed alittle. 

You do not need to arrive with answers. In fact, “I don't know” may be one of the more useful things we can bring into the room.

Individual sessions can be attended separately and will stand on their own. But we strongly recommend joining the whole five-session journey. There is quite a lot of unlearning and undoing before we start putting things back together again.

SESSON 1: "Unlearning" on 7 October 4-6pm

As the world our universities were built for starts to unravel, which of modernity’s “hallucinations”  are we still carrying into our classrooms? What do WE need to unlearn before asking our students to change?

SESSION 2: "I should have gone to Hanze" on 21 October 4-6pm

If AI can produce increasingly competent work in seconds, what is specifically worth coming to a university to learn? What is university for anyway? 

SESSION 3: "Strangers in my class" on 4 November 4-6pm

Our students are changing so fast we can't keep up. There is only one thing that changes even faster: the world they are entering. How do we educate for a future that neither they nor we can reliably imagine?

SESSION 4: "Ungrading" on 18 November 4-6pm

If AI is already disrupting all our assessments - this may be a good moment to ask the more uncomfortable question: what are grades actually for, and what do they do to learning?

SESSION 5: "Re-learning" on 2 December 4-6pm

The good news: we are already doing more than we think. Sometimes we need encouragement, sometimes simply to notice and name what we are already doing, and sometimes permission to bring heart and body into spaces where only the mind has been allowed before.
