ENLIGHT Joint Courses (Short Term Mobility)

Want an international study experience, but without committing to a full exchange semester?
Through ENLIGHT, you can join a short international course together with students from universities across Europe. Known as Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs), these courses combine online learning with a short study experience abroad. You'll work on real-world challenges, gain international experience, earn academic credits, and spend a week at a partner university abroad.
Why join?
-
Experience studying abroad: Spend a week at a European partner university and discover a new academic and cultural environment.
-
Work with students from across Europe: Collaborate in international teams, exchange ideas, and build connections that can last beyond the course.
-
Earn credits for your degree: Most courses award between 3 and 7.5 ECTS credits, which may be recognised within your study programme, subject to approval by your faculty.
-
Flexible and manageable: Unlike a semester exchange, these courses require only a short stay abroad. The programme combines a few online sessions with one intensive week on location.
-
Strengthen your CV: Employers value international experience, intercultural collaboration, and the ability to work in diverse teams.
How does it work?
Each course consists of two parts:
1. Online preparation
Before travelling, you participate in online meetings and activities with students from other universities.
2. One week abroad
You then travel to the host university for an intensive week of lectures, workshops, group projects, and networking activities.
After successfully completing the course, you receive academic credits.
Who can apply?
You can apply if you:
-
Are enrolled at the University of Groningen throughout the entire course period.
-
Are available for both the online and on-site parts of the course.
-
Can obtain approval from your faculty for credit recognition.
Funding and costs
Students can apply for Erasmus+ mobility support for travel and accommodation.
We strongly recommend contacting your faculty Exchange Office before applying to confirm eligibility and credit recognition.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP)?
A Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) is a short international course that combines online learning with a short study period at a partner university. Through ENLIGHT, students work together with peers from across Europe and earn academic credits.
Further information
Next to recognition of the course as such, please bear in mind that the number of ECTS allocated to these BIPs has been determined by the coordinating/host universities. Students can apply for recognition of credits to the relevant authorities in their home institution (at UG this is the Board of Examiners). The final decision on awarding credits is based on the actual workload and is at the discretion of each home university.
