About us Organization Partnerships Royal Dutch Institute in Rome (KNIR)

Mission and vision

The Royal Dutch Institute in Rome (KNIR) is a Campus of Excellence of Dutch universities in the historical and cultural heart of Europe.

The KNIR is the oldest and largest of the Dutch Scientific Institutes Abroad (NWIB). The institute acts as a liaison between the Dutch universities and the academic world in Italy and has been known for its quality research and interdisciplinary education in the humanities, for over a hundred years.

The KNIR organizes courses for students of all levels of education, and provides scholarships and accommodation in Rome to excelling students and researchers of various disciplines. To participate in the education and scholarship programmes, students are selected based on their academic record, their motivation, and their research proposals.

With its stately villa, a unique library collection and a rich programme of conferences, lectures and cultural activities, the KNIR functions as a scientific gateway to the Eternal City where Dutch students and researchers can lap up cross-border perspectives.

See the website of the KNIR for more information.
