Prof. L.P. Rensmann, Faculty of Arts
Lars Rensmann has been Professor of European Politics and Society at the UG since 2016. Originally from Germany, he has lived in Iowa, Berlin, New Haven, Potsdam, Michigan and Rome. His main focus areas are politics and political theory, but he is also interested in anti-Semitism and the extreme Right.
Students describe Lars as a ‘true specialist when it comes to European politics and populism’ and state that ‘following a course unit taught by Lars is a great pleasure’. He is able to create a learning environment in which students feel free to express their opinions and engage in discussions. He always makes an effort to explain information from various angles, allowing his students to develop their own opinions. In addition, he provides many real-life examples. His wide array of international experience also allows him to create the ultimate ‘international classroom’. There is no one set of qualities or one particular method which embodies the perfect lecturer, but one thing that is crucial is that the lecturer challenges their students intellectually and stimulates their curiosity. Lars succeeds in this by passing on his passion to others.
