Protestival

When:Mo 26-01-2026 19:30 - 23:00Where:Usva, Munnekeholm

You're young and want to speak out against injustice. Where do you start? Politically driven students asked themselves this very question 55 years ago, and thus the Groninger Student Union (GSb) was founded. In 1971, they campaigned for a better position for students, against climate change, and for international solidarity. How does the political youth culture of that time compare to that of today? And what's on the agendas of student activists these days?

The Protestival kicks off with the book launch of Nait Soez'n – de Groninger Studentenbond in de jaren zeventig - en wat daaraan vooraf ging. Afterward, GSb alumni will engage in discussions with current student activists. In other talks, Rodrigo Gonzalez and human rights lawyer Jelle Klaas will speak about queer activism and the right to protest. Get involved in hands-on activities like crafting a political zine, reimagining traditional protest songs with a modern twist, and enjoying live music. You can also meet political student associations and browse the mini-market for books, merchandise, and updates on current student activism!

This program contains Dutch and English components.

Protestival is organised by Studium Generale, Groninger Studentenbond en Usva.
