Academia, and Beyond: Post-Academic Career Paths
|When:||Th 27-05-2021 15:00 - 18:30|
It is not always easy to land a permanent job in academia, and along the way you may have started to doubt whether you would even want that. In this workshop, aimed at PhD students and other early career academic researchers, we will explore professional opportunities outside academia.
The workshop includes three inspirational testimonials from PhDs who took a different career path after obtaining their doctorates. Dr. Wieneke Jansen (PhD in Classics, now Consultant at Strategy Consulting firm McKinsey), Dr. Eefje Rondeel (PhD in psychology, now independent teacher and trainer) and Dr. Els van Rooij (PhD in educational sciences, now quality assurance officer at TU Eindhoven) will tell about their experiences, including plenty of time for questions.
The second half of the workshop is a fully sponsored, hands-on training by Karen Kelsky of the renowned coaching company The Professor is in on moving on to a post-academic career. She discusses what skillsets academics possess, but also many other relevant aspects such as: confronting grief at leaving the academy, common pitfalls and challenges for the PhD job seeker in the ‘real world’, and tips for the non-academic resume.
