My PhD research focuses on cross-cultural depression prevention for international students. I explore the link between cultural identity (self-construals) and mental well-being.
In my first research line, I discovered a significant connection between having an inner compass in uncertain situations and lower depressive symptoms and less negative self-treatment.
My second research line confirmed existing self-construal concepts while introducing new insights using a qualitative design. Additionally, my research expanded the understanding of the inner compass in uncertain situations and its role in buffering psychological well-being. Moreover, my qualitative research delved deeper into self-criticism, self-compassion, and depressive symptoms among international students.
In my last PhD research line, the focus is on investigating the causal relationship between the inner compass in uncertain situations and well-being. I aim to develop interventions to improve international students' resilience and well-being cross-culturally.
Generally, my research offers both theoretical insights and practical applications.
