Yingdan(Catherine) Cai , MSc. is a final year PhD Candidate in International Business at University of Groningen, the Netherlands. She has a Bachelor’s degree in International Economics and Trade and a Research Master’s degree in Economics and Business (Profile: International Economics and Business). 

Catherine is interested in entry mode strategies of emerging market firms. More specifically, her dissertation work examines heterogeneity in emerging market firms (EMFs) and how this affects firm strategic choices and outcomes when EMFs use cross-border mergers & acquisitions to bundle with complementary local assets in host countries.

She has previously presented in various academic conferences and doctoral consortiums such as Academy of International Business (AIB) 2011 &2013, European Academy of International Business(EIBA) 2010; Academy of Management (AOM) 2012 &2014 and European Academy of Management (EURAM) 2013, as well as SOM PhD Conference 2012, 2013 & 2014. With the application of institutional economics and transaction costs in International Business, she has also attended the 4th Lindau Meeting in Economic Sciences, which is an opportunity for highly selected young economists to interact with Nobel laureates. 

Catherine has received various awards. The paper "Does government stake influence cross-border deal completion? Evidence from Brazil" authored by Yingdan Cai, Kees van Veen & Sathyajit Gubbi has been one of the four finalists for CGIO best paper in International Corporate Governance in International Management Division in Academy of Management Annual Meeting 2014 and an abridged version of the paper is included in the Academy of Management Best Paper Proceedings (21 out of 204 accepted papers in the IM division, or 10% are accepted for the proceeding). In addition, her dissertation proposal has won the Best COST Think Thank Proposal Award in the 1st COST–EIBA / EIASM Doctoral Think Tank on Emerging Markets and Their Corporate Players at EIBA 2010. 

Her teaching interest is International Business Strategies, with a focus on emerging markets. For the Academic year 2013-2014, she is a tutor for 3rd year & pre-master course in International Strategic Management.

Catherine Cai is on the job market during the Academic year of 2014-2015.
